Q: What is the safest NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) on the market for arthritis pain? I have a lot of joint and back pain and used to take Celebrex a long time ago. I now take a low dose of aspirin.

A: All NSAIDs have risks for gastric ulcers, and some, like rofecoxib (Vioxx), are associated with a high risk for heart disease like myocardial infarction. Some, like Naprosyn, are considered to be relatively safe, but not 100%.

You can also consider taking intra-articular hyaluronic acid shots, a normal substance present inside the knee joint known as viscosupplementation. Check this link for more information about this.

Perhaps get an MRI of your back to exclude pinched nerve as the source of pain. Also physiotherapy goes a long way for joint as well as back pain.
